We floated one boat in this months Cross Team Challenge. Well done to David H, Jeff K, Bill, Rob D and Karyn for some very good entires for the French Kiss interval sets.

For the first time since May 2009 I wasn't able to participate in the CTC due to my knee and toe injuries. I had an MRI scan on my knee on Friday so will find out what recovery programme I've got soon - hopefully if things go well I will be back with you guys for the June CTC which is a 10k session with a 24 spm max stroke rate restriction. Interesting.

Talking of interesting stuff Jo completed her first half marathon this month with a very impressive time of 2 hrs 6 mins. Excellent stuff Jo!

Dave H completed a full marathon for the May Global Marathon Challenge earlier in the month along with Rowan, Karyn, Norman, John G, Leslie, Rob D and Steve C who all rowed a half marathon. Excellent work ETT'ers.

Did any of you achieve a PB?
Any tips and advice for the Summer Solstice Challenge on the 21st June?

Row 21,000 metres to celebrate the Summer Solstice on the 21st June. You can split the total metres into smaller chunks throughout the 24 hour period or add 97 metres and row a half marathon (if you choose this option you have to do the 21,097 metres in one continuous row to qualify for the rankngs).

So to summerise the next few challenges:
  • June CTC is 10,000 metres max spm of 24
  • Summer Solstice 21,000 metres on 21st June (or 21,097 half marathon)
  • The deadline for the Challenge Series 500 metres is 11pm 1st June

May CTC update

Hello ETT'ers I just wanted to let you know why I haven't been able to upload my usual metres this season; I've been given orders to put the erging on hold for a while after over-working my left knee doing some house renovation over Easter. I have been doing some maintenance work on the rower and long walks, but nothing hard-core on the exercise front unfortunately. I might not be able to contribute to the CTC which will be the first time since ETT started participating in May 2009! I think I will wait it out until the last day and see how things are then.

In other news, over the past two months I updated my CV and applied for a few jobs. Luckily I secured one last week which will begin in September - I am very happy about it!
Oh, I am also trying to write my final dissertation for the part-time MA I'm studying for - the deadline is looming ever closer!

I hope you are all well. Let me know what you've all been up to.

Some great distances from ETT'ers for the French Indoor Rowing Team (FIRT) May CTC.

Row intervals of:
One minute, two minutes, three minutes,
one minute, two minutes, three minutes
with a maximum of nine minutes resting, spread any way you like.
First rep from a standing start, the other reps from a standing or rolling start (your choice).
Record your total distance for twelve minutes not including the nine minutes rest.

Rainer rules!

Great news - our very own Rainer has beaten another erging record!

He e-mailed me yesterday to let me know that he took part in a 100,000,000 metres team race and his team rowed a new Estonian record!

Including Rainer the team had 8 men and their aim was to keep a pace of 1.30/500 metres.
The previous record was rowed in 2013 and was  5 hours, 19 minutes and 23 seconds with a pace of1:35,8 seconds/500 meters.

Rainer and his Estonian team's new record is 100k in 5 hours, 6 minutes and 11 seconds with a pace of 1:31,9/500 metres.

Excellent stuff Rainer. You and your fellow Estonian team mates are amazing ; )

First week of the 2015 season

Hello folks, how was your first week of the 2015 season?
Did you set yourself any erging goals to achieve this year?

The Rowing Company Challenge Series session this month is the Sprint Finish

A quick 500 metres to end the Challenge Series in style!

Ric is leading the team in the challenge series this season - well done there Ric, you have entered some consistently excellent times / distances. Watch out for Joe S who is very close behind - there is only 11 points difference!

I dropped out after missing two sessions due to a bit of a crazy work schedule and other things that got in the way. Ooops - next season I need to make sure I don't miss the entry deadline!

The May Cross Team Challenge session is called the French Kiss - cheeky!

This challenge was chosen by the French Indoor Rowing Team (FIRT)
Row the following reps:
One minute, two minutes, three minutes,
one minute, two minutes, three minutes
with a maximum of nine minutes resting, spread any way you like.

First rep from a standing start, the other reps from a standing or rolling start (your choice).

Record your total distance for twelve minutes not including the nine minutes rest.
