Holiday Challenge and a very Merry Christmas!

Hey folks, its Christmas Eve and for those of you who celebrate Christmas I wish you a wonderful time with loved ones.
If you have been erging away for the Holiday Challenge it is now the final day so you can enjoy some well deserved rest tomorrow (if you are not in the kitchen creating a feast of food for your family).

Rest up for a week and reserve your energy for the Virtual Team Challenge that starts on the 1st January 2015. If you need to burn off some Christmas Pudding there is also a week left to contribute to the Cross Team Challenge - only four team mates have entered so far - Thanks Ken, Rob, Jonathan and Bill).

The following team mates achieved the Holiday Challenge! Well done to you all!

Other amazing achievements come from our hard-working Estonian team mate Rainer and Yorkshire lass Jo.

Rainer won a silver medal from Estonian IRC 1000m with a new personal record 3:05,0.
He explained it was severe race, but he managed to hold his speed till the end of the race.
He feels like half of my lung is probably missing (we hope it has healed up now!!). Competing has given Rainer more confidence before World Record Project that begins in 5th of January. Wish Rainer luck!

As writing this Jo will have completed her Million metre / Marathon challenge. We hope she is resting up and enjoying some time with her family. Well done Jo! http://www.justgiving.com/OneHappyRower

All I have left to post today is to wish you all a lovely holiday and break with family and friends. I have really enjoyed being your team captain this year and am gearing up for a great team competition in January. See you in 2015!

Holiday Challenge 2014

Joe S has invited ETT'ers to get involved in some extra fund-raising.

Joe has decided that raising money via the Concept 2 website is not enough for this year's Concept2 Holiday Challenge.

He has set his own personal challenge that for every kilometre rowed he is going to donate .50 cents to his local food bank (The Food Bank of Western New York).

He his aspiring to reach 300k (although admits that with holiday travel, and overtime, it will be tough to hit). He has achieved at 86k one week in though.

He wanted me to promote his idea and maybe some ETT'ers would like to join in to help out with hunger in your own local area.

Joe wishes you Happy Holidays good rowing to all of you this season!

Jo's PB HM

Jo completed her half-marathon challenge on Saturday in Ilkley, West Yorkshire. She achieved a personal best time by 30 seconds erging the 21,097 metres in 1:52:25.7 at an average pace of 2:39.9.
Excellent stuff Jo! Those metres will count towards the Holiday Challenge too!

Happy Thanksgiving to our USA team mates

Hey USA ETT'ers. Wishing you all a very happy Thanksgiving.

Now to burn off all that turkey, vegetables, cornbread and pumpkin pie get on the erg to start the Holiday Challenge 2014!

Congratulations goes out to two hard-erging ETT'ers

Two team mates have exciting erging achievements to celebrate this week.

Let's start with Jo who, as you know been indoor rowing for the past year to raise money for Macmillan Cancer.
Jo reached her milestone of one million metres this week and will erg on in style with a half-marathon in Ilkley, West Yorkshire on Saturday 27th November and a full marathon on December.
Jo Go! Well done from behalf of all ETT'ers!

The next bit of fantastic news comes all the way from Estonia - you've guessed it - Rainer has been busy again setting erging records in his first ever 6k race.
He won a silver medal at the Estonian indoor rowing championship. His distance was 6000m with a time of 21:43.1 in the men's 27-44 age category.  Excellent work Rainer. I had better update the team achievements log on the blog!

Don't forget team mates that the Holiday Challenge is upon us soon.
Row or ski 100,000 metres or 200,000 metres during the 27th November (Thanksgiving for those USA team mates) until the 24th December (Christmas Eve for those who celebrate it).

More information can be found on the C2 website here:

Jo's one million metres for Macmillian

I had a touching e-mail from our fellow team mate Jo last week about the million metre challenge she has nearly completed but needs a little bit more support and encouragement to reach the final stages.

She is raising money and awareness for Macmillian Cancer in memory of her mum who died last year and for her dad who is doing well but has battled a number of different cancers too. I know how important it is to support any cancer charity after losing my dad to Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in January this year.

Jo started the million on 5/5/14 (her parent's wedding anniversary) and will finish it this month. She is currently on around 920,000 metres.

She is going to row a half marathon outside on a bandstand in the middle of Ilkey town in West Yorkshire on 29/11/14 & a full marathon on 21/12/14 (the first anniversary of her Mum's death). If you are in the area I am sure Jo would absolutely love your support!

Jo explained that is has captured people's imagination in the press & Twitter, and has already passed her original £4219.50 target . She has raised £6500 so far which is very impressive!

If you would like to post some words of encouragement pop some words on the team blog.
You can donate money to Jo's Justgiving page here: https://www.justgiving.com/onehappyrower/

Good luck Jo. Your mum would have been very proud of you!

Happy Halloween and Oct CTC update

Happy Halloween ETT'ers.
I used to be a werewolf but I'm alright noooooowwwwwwwhh!!!! It's my favourite seasonal joke!

We have one boat floated in this months scary Rugby test with a sting Cross Team Challenge. We had some awesome entries from Ken, Jonathan, Mark, Rob and Karyn in boat one. I am a bit lonely in boat two that didn't make it into the rankings. Better luck for the November CTC!?

The November (or should it be re-named Rowvember) Challenge has been set by Sub 7 and its the rather complex sessions as follows:

The Sub 7 Triple 7 Up or Down Ladder: November CTC

777m - 666m - 555m - 444m - 333m - 222m - 111m / 2 minutes rest between all reps.

First rep from a standing start. Subsequent reps can be from either a standing or rolling start.

This can be done as a continuous 3108m row for the folks that don't like intervals.

We want to allow the option of working up the ladder from the bottom. So, essentially, the session can be a choice between the one we've proposed

Or.....

111m/222m/333m/444m/555m/666m/777m - 2 min rest between all reps.

It gives folks the choice of which end they start from, and hopefully makes it interesting!?

FTC 2014 Final day!

You have until the 18th to upload any remaining metres..... but we are currently in 10th position with over 9 million metres which is extremely impressive stuff! Excellent work team mates.

I will do a full write up at the weekend. In the meantime enjoy some well deserved rest... not too much for those ETT'ers who are contemplating the BIRC in February. I will discuss training programmes next week.

FTC 2014 Day 27

Wow. This competition is hotting up. With only four more days to play we are still in the top ten and are very close to Team NAS Pensacola (we have battled with these guys before) with only 700k in it. when you consider that they have 636 team members against our 46 team mates we are doing pretty good!

We are still holding onto second place in the virtual teams with 21-50 members!

Have you got any FTC firsts to share?
Have you rowed more metres than ever before / hit a new goal / improved on a distance or timed piece? If so I would love to hear from you so I can share the news with fellow team mates.

FTC 2014 Day 23

We are moving towards the final straight of the competition and we have made excellent progress during this year's Fall Team Challenge.

We are still in the top ten out of 290 world-wide teams.

We are in second place in virtual teams with 21-50 members which is brilliant stuff!

If you have been wondering where our very own Estonian Erg master Rainer has been during this competition he e-mailed me to let me know what he has been up to:

He has been rowing with his erg-mate Rait and are attempting to erg a new one million metres tandem world record in January 2015.

They have a Facebook page so check it out to find out more information: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Maailmarekordi-projekt-2015/189810534561954

They are hoping to achieve two world records during this event;
  • the one million metre tandem
  • the longest continual tandem row

Rainer says that "Some people say we are crazy; but life is too short and there is no reason not to try extraordinary things :)"

Hear, hear Rainer and good luck on behalf of all ETT'ers!

FTC 2014 Day 17

Keep up the fantastic work folks.

Have you achieved any PB's of feats of endurance during this FTC?

Jean C submitted a brilliant time for the current CTC session of 7,684 metres - the longest row she has done since taking a break from erging due to illness - Fantastic work there Jean and glad to have you back with us!

FTC 2014 Day Nine

Wowzers! If you compare ETT with similar sized virtual teams (21-50 members) we are in 2nd place!

Keep up the great work guys (and girls!).

FTC 2014 Week One

We have stayed in the top ten during the first week of competition and have collectively rowed over two million metres!
Keep up the epic work ETT'ers.

Has anybody achieved any PB's over the past few days?

It looks like Dave H is heading for half a million metres in the next few days!
Fred and Darren have already joined the 100k club followed closely by Jeff K, Ken, Bill, Rob D, Neil and Wayne.

Tuesday, 16 September 2014

FTC 2014 Day Two

David H has erged 100k+ already - amazing stuff!
Keep on rowing ETT'ers.
We are still in the top ten and have moved to 9th position.

Monday, 15 September 2014

FTC 2014 Day One

We have started the challenge with gusto, at the time of blogging we are in 8th position and have already clocked up 170,000 metres ; )

Only 13 team mates have uploaded their work-out so I am sure we will have a lot more metres to add the the current total by the end of the day.

Keep up the great work folks x

Sunday, 14 September 2014

FTC starts tomorrow!

Hey ETT'ers are you ready for the Fall Team Challenge tomorrow?

Our aim for this competition is to reach a top ten position by the 15th October and to achieve this we need to average 200k+ daily metres. I am fully confident that we can do this team!

Have you any personal goals you want to achieve by the end of the competition?

Blog Alert and apologies in advance

Just to let you know that in the first two weeks of the FTC it may be a little quieter than usual on the blog because I have some personal commitments that will make it difficult to promise lots of blog banter and team support.
My 15,000 word MA dissertation is due at the end of September and I have also just started a new job too (so having to put in quite a bit of extra work after hours). I hope you will look after yourselves and don't get into too much mischief. Don't forget you can encourage each other on our team Facebook page and you can write messages on the blog too.

Bring on the FTC!!
