July CTC

The July Cross Team Challenge has been set by DLC Bromsgrove

20 x 45 seconds with 15 second rests

Distance covered in the work intervals to be recorded.
Standing start for the first effort; as you please thereafter.

As some of you have already mentioned this one could be tricky for PM2 users. Good luck team mates.

Only two more days of the June CTC

Come on you people now, get on your ergs and do a 5k at 24spm......

With only two days left of the June Challenge we still need one female or lightweight and a heavyweight rower to get the fifth boat in the rankings.

Today Becky and myself helped the team gain a few extra points in the rankings by improving our 5k times.

Week three CTC vote

Week three results are in with 48 members casting their vote:

Half, half marathon 10,549 metres 50%
Handicapped 1k with weight, sex and age adjustments 37%
13 minutes 12%
8 x 31 seconds with 15 second rests 10%
8 x 500 metres with 1 minute rests 10%
5k restricted to 20spm 10%
13 x 1 minutes with 1 minute rests 10%
8 minutes 4%

Hot, hot, hot

I hope the UK team mates are enjoying the balmy temperatures at the moment. How are you all coping rowing in this heat?
I haven't got an air-conditioned gym so I am rowing with the windows wide open, my C breeze pointed at my face and another fan on rotation.

If anybody is attempting the CTC 5k r24 again make sure you drink plenty of fluids - I don't want to be responsible for anybody getting extreme dehydration!
We only need 2 more heavyweight ETTer's to fill boat five......... come on people lets make it a record!

Don't forget the Summer Solstice 21k

Make yourselves a hearty breakfast tomorrow to fuel your engine for 21,000 metres of rowing to celebrate the longest day of the year.

What's on the menu you ask? I am starting the day with two lovely organic scrambled eggs - what's your breakfast routine?

I had planned to set my alarm early to get in a cheeky 5k before work, but I am recovering from a sore throat so I am getting the 'late' train into work tomorrow - a bit naughty I know. I am only deferring the pain until after work.

What's your plan for the 21k?
All in one go or smaller intervals?

Here are the results:

Handicapped 1k with weight, sex and age adjustments 35%
8 x 31 seconds with 15 second rests 12%

Three boats in the June CTC rankings

Yahoo, thanks to Yee-Ann we have boat three in the points rankings. Congratulations to all rowers who have tackled this one - it is surprisingly tough.
If you haven't already tried it give the 5k restricted to 24spm a go - you might be surprised at how quickly you row it.

Wanted - a lightweight and female rower for boat four.

Vote for the August CTC

You may have noticed the voting poll at the right hand side of the blog so you can cast your vote for the August Cross Team Challenge.

I had a technical hitch with the 'polling widget' earlier today so the person who voted for the 5k unrestricted will have to vote again (sorry to whoever that was).

The deadline for the initial vote is in a month's time.

Summer Solstice Challenge

On the 21st June C2 have set the annual challenge of rowing 21,000 metres in honour of the longest day of the year.

Here is what you have to do to get involved:
  • Row 21,000 meters on June 21.
  • Metres can be rowed all at once in one workout or over several workouts throughout the day.
  • If you add on 97 more metres to row 21,097 meters, or a half-marathon, it needs to be rowed all at once in order to qualify to be a ranked piece.
  • This is an individual challenge. (You do not need to belong to a team to participate.)
  • Metres must be entered online.
  • Indoor rower and on water metres count. You can combine metres to reach 21,000 metres.

Two boats floated in the June CTC

In the first few days of this months Cross Team Challenge we have floated two boats with thanks to June and Andy H who pulled in some great times.
Edward J
has started boat three with a strong 19:52 minute 5k - don't leave him all alone; come on team mates let's get the third boat in the rankings by the end of the week.

June CTC

The June Cross Team Challenge has been set by Independent:

5,000 metres restricted to 24 strokes per minute

I have just finished the 5k challenge and kept my stroke rate as close to 24 as possible. I rowed a PB of 23:38.0, pace 2:21.8, 24spm. I may try a different tactic later in the month when I attempt the 5k again.

Andy rowed the 5k yesterday and tried a different approach to me. He did the first 3k at 22spm, and the final 2k at 25spm, then increased his pace to 27spm for the last 500m. This gave him an average rate of 23spm.

Good luck with this row everybody - let's aim to get five boats floated this month.
