Latest positions in the May CTC

I have been extremely happy with team participation in the May 1k Cross Team Challenge. We are doing very well in the rankings - lots of members have had several attempts to try to beat their best times.

I managed to take 9 seconds off my previous time fueled by a bowl of sweet potatoes and motivated by the amazing 90's dance track 'You've Got the Love' (by The Source featuring Candi Staton).

In the last few days Phil has improved his time by 20 seconds, Edward J has taken off 9 seconds and Joe D has shaved off 5 seconds - Nice work gents.

We only need four more rowers to get boat five in the rankings....

Our current positions look like this:

Four boats in May CTC and a new team mate

Empty the Tanks has four boats in the Cross Team Challenge points ranking for the first ever time since June 2009 - pretty impressive stuff.

Our new team mate, Neil M helped us achieve this historic event by rowing the 1k challenge and joined boat four in the rankings. Thanks Neil and welcome to the team.

We have a very good chance of getting boat five filled if five more team mates get involved in the next seven days.

Another new team mate

Joe D joined the team today and has already entered a time for the May CTC 1k. Welcome aboard Joe.
Phil V has also rowed the 1k challenge so we only need one more team mate to float boat four in the points rankings.

Boat four has been started

We only need three male rowers to ensure boat four enters the points rankings in the May 1k Cross Team Challenge.

Hector and Karen V have rowed 1k today and posted some very good times.

Three boats floated in May CTC and another new team mate

With three boats successfully floated in the points rankings and eleven days left in May why not push the boat out and get four floated?
Come on Empty the Tankers who participate in the tri-annual team challenges - why not give this cheeky 1k a go? Its only 4 minutes of your life......or less.

A massive warm welcome to our new team mate who qualified the third boat into the points rankings - Yee-Ann Cho - great stuff we need more girls to give the boys a run for their money.

Suggestion for the August CTC

Edward has suggested a great idea for the August Cross Team Challenge which ties in with some suggestions made by other teams mates; a half, half marathon (10,548.5 metres) we could round it up/down to the nearest number - sounds like a novel idea.

Brand new team mate

We have a new member called Chris Benson, a lightweight rower who has entered a very decent time for the May CTC 1k. Welcome to the team Chris B.

We only need ONE more rower in the next 11 days to row 1k to ensure boat three gets into the points rankings.

Only two men needed

Well done to Andy, Edward and Mick who have all rowed the 1k - we only need two more guys to help us float boat number three in this months Cross Team Challenge.

Tuesday, 17 May 2011

Men needed

We need 5 male team mates to row the May 1k CTC so we could float a THIRD boat in the points rankings. Come on guys its only three and a half minutes of pain......

New half marathon personal best time

I have just finished my half marathon, I'm still very hot and my hands are shaking with adrenalin. I rowed the last 2,000 metres at just under my 2k pace and threw everything into the last 1k at my 2k pace. This probably indicates I could have put a bit more into the half marathon earlier on, but with very little practise at longer distances its hard to know how much you will have left in the tanks. My average stroke rate was 25spm and my average heart rate was 154bpm although in the last 2k it rose to 184bpm.

It felt much better than my 2009 row but the first 5k was slower than I wanted so I picked up the pace at the 15k mark. I rowed at a pace of 2:36.3 taking 2 minutes off my previous half marathon with 1:49:56.1. I am currently ranked 4th out of 7 in my age and weight category on the C2 world rankings. I think its time for a chill out now.

Good luck to any other Empty the Tanks team mates doing a half or full marathon this weekend.

Well done to the nine team mates who rowed the Global Marathon Challenge:

Mark - 42,195 metres - 2:49:13.7 - 4th out of 19 MHW 30-39 PB
David J - 21,097 metres - 1:37:45.0 - 57th out of 78 MHW 40-49
Caroline - 21,097 metres - 1:49:56.1 - 4th out of 7 FLW 30-39 PB
Andy H - 21,097 metres - 1:30:48.9 - 20th out of 42 MHW 30-39 PB
Hector - 21,097 metres - 1:33:27.6 - 46th out of 78 MHW 40-49
Ian - 21,097 metres - 1:34:49.0 - 31st out of 56 MHW 50-59 PB
Jim - 21,097 metres - 1:40:14.8 - 48th out of 63 MHW 50 - 59 PB
Dave -
21,097 metres - 1:27:39.2 - 12th out of 42 MHW 30-39
Andy S -
21,097 metres - 1:28:56.3 - 21st out of 76 MHW 50-59

Any more ETT'ers up for a marathon this weekend?

Mark B has inspired other team mates to get involved in the Global Marathon Challenge - Andrew H has rowed a half marathon in 1.30.48, taking 4 minutes off his personal best time. (Average spm 21, average HR 166).
Dave plans to row a half marathon this Sunday (good luck) and I am going to see how I feel on Saturday / Sunday morning for a blast at beating my 2009 time of 1:52:01.4 at a pace of 2:39.2.

Two boats floated in the May CTC

For the first time since February 2010 we have floated two boats in this month's Cross Team Challenge.
If five more team mates row 1k before the end of the month we could be in with a chance of getting three boats in the rankings - the last time this was achieved was back in December 2009.

One week left for the Global Marathon Challenge

Row a half or full marathon between now and the 15th May to earn yourself a certificate and a wonderful feeling of achievement.

Half Marathon = 21,097 metres
Full Marathon = 42,195 metres

Congratulations goes out to Mark B who has pulled in a personal best time for the Full Marathon taking 7 minutes from his 2009 PB with 2:49:13.7.

Let me know how you get on and I'll post your results on the blog for everybody to see.

August CTC ideas

The last chance we had to set the Cross Team Challenge was in December 2009 when the team chose 25 mins restricted to below 25 spm.
A few ideas for the August Cross Team Challenge row have been suggested by the following members:

Caroline - 8 minutes, 8 x 500 metres with 1 minute rest
Andy - Half marathon, 5k restricted to r20
Mark - 8 x 31 seconds with 30 seconds rest
Ian - 13 minutes, 13 x 1 minutes with 1 minute rest
David J - unrestricted 30 or 60 minutes

What do you think?
Any more ideas?

Another new team mate

We have been joined by a new team mate from California called June. Welcome to the team.

May CTC and a new team mate

Four Empty the Tanks team mates have rowed the 1k May Cross Team Challenge and Mark B is currently in the number one position for the individual rankings.

1Mark BowerMEmpty the Tanks I 3:07.6 1:33.8 424.1

It looks like Mark has encouraged his wife to join the team because she has pulled in a very decent time for the 1k challenge. Welcome to the team Karen!
Because we have another female rower contributing to the CTC challenges we should be able to float two boats this month.

August CTC

We have been selected to set the August Cross Team Challenge so get your thinking caps on for a fun, competitive and original row for the last month of summer.

Blog or e-mail your suggestions then we can vote for the most popular challenge.

May CTC

The Cross Team Challenge for May is a 1k unrestricted row that has been set by Sub 7.
We should be getting better at this short distance after 3 months of 1k related challenges. Good luck and row hard.

Results for the April CTC

We have floated a boat in the April Cross Team Challenge. A big thanks to Edward J and Mark B who rowed the challenge over the Bank Holiday weekend.
